Advancements in digital technology have greatly enhanced the signal processing
of today’s hearing aids. At Metropolitan ENT, we offer state-of-the-art
digital technology. Prices range from approximately $1,000 to $3,100 for one
hearing aid, depending on the level of technology selected. We provide a 30-day
trial period on all hearing aids.
During your hearing aid evaluation, the audiologist will help you select the
style of hearing aids that will be best for you, with the features you desire.
This decision is not only based on your type and degree of hearing loss, but
will also take into consideration your lifestyle and level of activity, your
physical characteristics, limitations, and dexterity, your cosmetic and style
preferences, and your budget. You can apply for 12 month interest free
financing through Care Credit at
www.carecredit.com
After making a decision as to the type of hearing aid that would be most
suitable for you, the audiologist will program your hearing aids to fit your
specific hearing loss. The audiologist will also provide a
comprehensive counseling and orientation program to allow you to use your
hearing aids successfully.
At
this time, the full cost of the hearing aids will be due. In those few cases
where insurance does provide some hearing aid benefits, it will be the patient’s
responsibility to recoup those benefits directly from their insurance company.
We do not bill insurance companies
for hearing aid benefits.
You will return for 2 or 3 follow-up visits during the 30-day trial period after
the initial fitting for progress checks and to make any necessary adjustments.
At the end of the 30-day trial period, if you are not satisfied with the
benefits of your hearing aids, you may elect to try another type, or return the
hearing aids for a full refund of the cost of the hearing aids, minus a $175
fitting fee. If you have paid with Care Credit, an additional 10%
will be held to cover the cost to us.
Metropolitan ENT honors the manufacturers warranty on new hearing aid purchases,
which includes any necessary manufacturer repairs. The manufacturers also
provide for a one-time replacement for loss and damage with a $250 deductible.
In addition, our audiologists will provide complimentary adjustments and
batteries for the lifetime of the hearing aids.
Why is it important to
purchase your hearing aids from an audiologist?
Once it
has been determined that hearing aids are needed, it is best to obtain them from
a licensed audiologist. Audiologists receive extensive training in choosing the
most appropriate hearing aid for a particular hearing loss, programming the
hearing aids in the most effective manner and finetuning the instruments based
on the feedback and needs of each individual patient.
Do I need a
hearing aid for both ears?
Our ears are
designed to be used together, that is why there is one on each side of our head,
and this is how our brains are wired to process sound and speech. If you have
hearing loss in both ears, using two hearing aids is best. Trying to
communicate in a noisy environment becomes very difficult when the ears are not
balanced. It is also very difficult to distinguish from what direction sounds
are coming. If you decide to only get a hearing aid in one ear, this breaks the
balance and additional adjustment time may be needed than if two hearing aids
were used.
